Learn about and share your input on two projects related to public access at Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. We would like to hear from you on the preliminary trail alignment and parking area design options for the Purisima-to-the-Sea Trail and Parking Area Project. We would also like your input on the Purisima Multimodal Access Study Project’s proposed strategies to promote greener modes of travel and better manage parking and visitation, which will inform the Purisima-to-the-Sea Trail parking area design.

We believe that providing a safe bike and pedestrian path from the south end of Half Moon Bay to downtown and beyond is critical to transportation equity for the many farmworkers and low-income residents of the Moonridge community. A trail extension would also connect families and senior citizens who live in the communities of Ocean Colony and Cañada Cove south of town. It would provide a safe alternative for approximately 20% of Half Moon Bay's school age population attending Sea Crest and Cabrillo Unified schools. Additionally, there are two preschools along the same section of the highway whose families would benefit greatly from safe bike and pedestrian routes. In summary, this trail extension will provide a healthy, car-free alternative to thousands of Half Moon Bay residents which will lead to safer access, fewer vehicle miles traveled, and reduced traffic congestion and air pollution.
We are working with local agencies to make this a reality. Please be in touch if you’d like to support this effort.
Coastside on Bikes recently held our first BIKE RODEO at El Granada Elementary, teaching safe riding skills to over 60 kids in the afterschool Dolphin Program there. We look forward to seeing some of these kids utilize their new skills on the new bike path leading to the school, and encourage families to ride to school. More people using the bike path = less traffic on the Coastside!
This study is looking at 18 miles of unbuilt California Coastal Trail in southern San Mateo County between Half Moon Bay and the Santa Cruz County line. The Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) is leading this project in partnership with Caltrans and in collaboration with many regional agencies and organizations (see link).
Focus groups are taking place Spring 2023, community presentations will take place in May and the final study will be reported in June/July of 2023.
